Landscaping project in visitor Centre of Tútugi Necropolis

Landscaping project in visitor Centre of Tútugi Necropolis

This project starts from a peculiar situation, for two reasons: The site, access to the Iberian necropolis of Tútugi (Galera), Asset of Cultural Interest, one of the most extensive known and cemetery of the city settled (VII-III B.C.). In the second place, we find a construction that was already carried out previously, which presented deficiencies in its degree of integration with the environment, the treatment of interior/exterior spaces and their material adaptation.

Faced with this opportunity, we are asked to adapt the existing building as a reception centre for visitors to the necropolis, together with the treatment of the immediate external environment.

The proposal integrates the imprint of the building, as a volume buried in the existing landscape. The building becomes part of the visitor’s topography and route. It is integrated in its materiality, with a limestone envelope (traditional and extended in the aparatados of these places) and materials extracted from the adjacent landscape itself. economy of means supported by local techniques and craftsmen give character to the intervention.
